Health & Safety

All our employees have the right to work in an injury free and healthy environment. Legal compliance is our minimum standard and we are committed to achieving continuous improvement and ultimately attaining industry-leading standards of performance for health and safety.

Our Approach

Our corporate vision and framework for our operating companies, joint ventures, partnerships and supply chain is set out in the VT Group Health and Safety Policy and Health and Safety Requirements and Expectations documents. We have additional guidelines and frameworks that define minimum standards in areas of specific risk, share best practice and ensure consistency of approach.

VT Group’s Health and Safety Strategy was launched at a group-wide conference in 2007. The strategy aligns our operations behind our core objectives.

Implementing Policy

Together, the heads of health and safety from our business units form the Health and Safety Forum, which reports to the VT Group Executive Committee . Mindful of new and emerging legislation and industry experience, the forum’s purpose is to:

  • Review and develop VT Group policies and systems
  • Monitor VT Group performance
  • Make recommendations for appropriate targets and key performance indicators

Business Units

The business units play the leading role in delivering continuous improvement:

  • Each business unit conducts its own audits, incident reviews and inspections, in addition to those of independent agencies, to evaluate compliance and verify performance
  • Each is required to have in place clear lines of responsibility, structures, resources, expert advice and support to enable ongoing health, safety and environmental monitoring and evaluation
