VT Group & the Wounded Warrior
Project

The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors by raising awareness and enlisting the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women. The organization helps service members aid and assist each other as well as provides unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.

VT Group & the First Annual Bellator Wounded Warrior 5K Run

The First Annual Bellator Wounded Warrior 5K run took place in March 2009 on the oceanfront boardwalk at Virginia Beach, Virginia. The event’s naming sponsor was Bellator Nation, a clothing company inspired by the warrior spirit, centered on honor, passion, fortitude and determination. To promote the Wounded Warrior Project mission and work, the event opened with presentations of the Honor and Remember Flag, a Navy color guard and an inspiring rendition of the national anthem.

VT Group joined the event as a sponsor and fielded 38 runners, walkers and volunteers, representing our facilities in the South Hampton Roads vicinity. Our volunteers in the sponsor tent spoke with hundreds of local residents about the company, our role in the community and our part in serving the nation’s armed forces. Still other volunteers and our own finishing runners handed out refreshments of water, juice, bananas, oranges, muffins and cookies to race participants as they crossed the finish, while cheering on the remaining runners and walkers.

The event proved immensely successful, with favorable attention from local news media helping to attract almost 800 runners – compared to the 200 that organizers had hoped for.

Please Help Us Help the Wounded Warrior Project

The Bellator Wounded Warrior 5K is just one of many activities nationally that raise awareness of the Wounded Warrior Project and funds for its work. The organization most likely has a chapter and activities very close to you. Please give of yourself in appreciation of the sacrifices made by our wounded military veterans.
