VT Group at Work

Ammunition Supply Point and Weapons Support Functions at Naval Station Ingleside TX

Under a contract to provide ammunition supply point and weapons support functions at Naval Station Ingleside, Texas, VT Group provided multi-functional base operations support (BOS) services for the Navy's Mine Warfare Center of Excellence.  We provided safe, timely, cost-effective receipt, segregation, storage, renovation and repackaging and issue of conventional ammunition, weapons, torpedoes, missiles and components to support fleet units and shore commands.

 

We provided other services, including:

  • Land transportation for conventional explosives,

  • Production planning and control for ammunition operations,

  • Inventory maintenance and space control of conventional ordnance material,

  • Storage and transportation operations and

  • Inspections and support services

 

Highlights:

  • Our ordnance services met production, storage and customer delivery demands and complied with Naval Ordnance safe handling equipment.  

  • Our weapons and ammunition support program maintained 100% accountability and 98% inventory accuracy for all ammunition and explosives by using the bar code system and monthly inventory surveillance. 

  • We implemented a magazine grid system for ease of location and inventory management.

  • Over the contracts total lifecycle, VT weapons specialists safely handled 92 tons net explosive weight. 

  • VT Group had the first continental U.S. privately contracted weapons department in the U.S. Navy and successfully passed the Navy's explosive safety inspection in FY2006 with a score of 99.34%.
