VT Group Unmanned Services Wins Seat on NAVAIR BOA
ARLINGTON, VA, Jan. 4, 2013—VT Group’s Unmanned Services business unit was awarded a seat on the U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) AIR-4.5X Special Surveillance Program (SSP) basic ordering agreement (BOA). The total value of contracted services for this multiple award contract exceeds $800M annually for three years.
The Special Surveillance Program has responsibilities in a number of reconnaissance and surveillance programs for the U.S. Navy and other Department of Defense agencies, and includes both unmanned aircraft and aerostats programs. NAVAIR has been tasked to provide OCONUS (outside of the continental United States) operational support for Persistent Ground Surveillance Systems (PGSS) deployed to Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) throughout Afghanistan. Other programs include the HELIOS Copperhead and the Persistent Surveillance Unmanned Aerial System (PSUAS).
PGSS works with FOB Commanders to help deter and prevent attacks against U.S. and Coalition troops deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The HELIOS Copperhead works to deter and foil improvised explosive device (IED) emplacements, while the PSUAS provides persistent surveillance air coverage over a specific area of interest.
“We are proud to extend our support of the U.S. Navy and its program to our Unmanned Services business unit. From in-field operations and R&D testing to end-to-end life cycle management and training, the highly skilled staff in our Unmanned Services business unit is eager to begin this mission-critical work, and we look forward to providing the best services to our current and future customers,” said VT Group’s CEO David J. Dacquino.
This BOA utilizes VT Unmanned Services in-field operations and field service representatives who are specially trained to operate PGSS aerostats, TigerShark and Copperhead unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) overseas. In addition, VT Unmanned Services will provide logistics, training and packout supplies and support services.
